DiIC12(3) 是一种亲脂性神经示踪剂，常用于标记神经元投射以及其他类型细胞的脂质双层。由于DiIC12(3) 染料毒性低且对细胞活性影响极小，可在多种应用中标记细胞。康宁DiIC12(3) 荧光染料可用于荧光标记活细胞，进行肿瘤细胞侵袭或内皮细胞迁移等实验。此外，细胞耐受不同荧光染料的时间各异。虽然标记钙黄绿素AM的细胞暴露在染料中的时间不应超过8小时，但康宁DiIC12(3) 在标记数天后仍不会对细胞造成不良影响。
