Recombinant enzyme prepared from the cytosolic (soluble) fraction of insect cells infected with baculovirus containing human NAT1 cDNAs

Arylamine N-Acetyltransferases (NATs) are cytosolic proteins expressed in a wide variety of tissues. They play an important role in the N-acetylation of drugs and xenobiotics containing aromatic amine and hydrazine groups, converting them to aromatic amides and hydrazides, respectively. In humans, there are two functional NAT isoforms, NAT1 and NAT2. Several polymorphisms have been reported for the NAT enzymes, particularly NAT2.

NAT1 has a ubiquitous tissue distribution. Substrates for NAT1 include p-aminosalicylic acid, p-aminobenzoic acid and sulfanilamide. Corning Gentest™ Supersomes™ NAT1 is derived from the wild-type allele, NAT1*4.
