Corning® Supersomes™ Human Monoamine Oxidase A (MAO A), 0.5 mL

Product Number 456283

Recombinant enzyme prepared from insect cells infected with baculovirus containing human MAO A cDNAs

Monoamine Oxidases (MAOs) are integral proteins of the outer mitochondrial membrane. They are responsible for catalyzing the oxidative deamination of a wide variety of xenobiotic and endobiotic primary, secondary, and tertiary amines. Endobiotic substrates for these enzymes include catecholamine neurotransmitters: serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephine. Xenobiotic substrates include the serotonin receptor agonists Sumatriptan, Rizatriptan, and Zolmitriptan (anti-migraine drugs), and the neurotoxin MPTP. Many drugs currently on the market, and certain food products high in tyramine, are known to interact with MAOs producing harmful side effects.

MAO-A is found at high levels in the liver, gastrointestinal tract, and placenta and areas of the brain. This enzyme is particularly important in the catabolism of monoamines ingested in food.
