IDC Line Modules

The Corning universal line module (ULM) is a sealed, tool-less subscriber bridge compatible with all industry-standard network interface devices (NIDs). The modular design allows the protector to separate itself from the subscriber module for mounting inside any NID application. The environmentally sealed insulation displacement con- nections (IDCs) and integrated protector enable heavy-duty protection and termination in one compact, modular unit.
A bypass switch disengages the plug from the jack before subscriber wiring access, fulfilling UL safety requirements. Orange levers and engraved line module doors indicate each tip/ring slot and connected and disconnected IDC positions. Technicians plug standard test clips into each tip/ring contact for quick verification, and integrated test ports facilitate maintenance and troubleshooting for C11 and customer networks. With four-line capacity, line test elec- tronics, RJ-11 test jack, and integrated test ports, the ULM exceeds Telcordia requirements for sealed terminations.
Tool-less, gel-sealed IDC terminals simplify field-wiring connections as insulated wires are no longer required to be stripped and screw terminated. A snap-in ground feature accommodates additional line module expansions and factory-controlled, preterminated tip/ring connections between line module and protector unit improve installation accuracy. The universality simplifies purchasing and inventory management by reducing the part numbers and standardizes on a common platform.
