UCAO OptiSheath ® Cierres

The OptiSheath® UCAO terminal is designed for outside plant fiber access networks. It provides sealed environ- mental protection and convenient incremental connection of subscriber drop cables while increasing deployment speed. The UCAO sealed terminal can also serve as a splice point where higher-fiber-count distribution cables can be branched to lower-fiber-count cables or multiport terminal stub cables. Optical splitters can be housed inside this terminal, making it ideal for distributed split PON architectures.

The closure can be used in underground chambers, wall-mounted on buildings, direct buried, or deployed on poles or messenger wires. Individual customer connections are achieved using OptiTap® ports. The closure can accom- modate up to 16 ports. The terminal consists of two hinged half-shells, sealed with a reusable silicone ring. All drop ports are contained in the top half and cable entry ports in the bottom half.

A new simplified tray allows for easy fiber management with up to six trays stacked inside the closure. Each tray can be individually accessed and can house up to 24 splices, providing the closure with a maximum of 144 splices (168 on demand). The trays can also be preloaded with optical splitters in a range of split ratios. The outputs of these optical splitters can be preconnectorized. After initial installation, more capacity can be added by installing splitter trays and connecting the outputs to the closure’s spare OptiTap ports.
